When to pick each
You want a Nether Star for a Beacon and have full Netherite, Strength II potions, and Regen potions. Build a Wither cage from Obsidian above the Nether ceiling — terrain damage is contained.
You want the Dragon Egg or the 12,000 first-kill XP. The fight is mostly mechanical — destroy crystals, then snipe with a Power V bow. Doable in Iron armor if patient.
