Grant operator status.

What is /op used for?

What /op is for

Grants operator status to a player, giving them permission to run cheats and admin commands on a multiplayer server.

When to use /op

Promote trusted moderators and admins on your server. On a dedicated server the first op is usually granted from the server console, then handed out in-game.

Tips & safety

Op level is set by server.properties (op-permission-level). Only op people you trust — operators can change the world, manage players, and grant op to others. Use /deop to revoke.

Common questions

How do I op myself on a Minecraft server?

From the server console (no slash), type op <yourname>. Once you're an operator you can op others in-game with /op.

What can server operators do?

Operators can run cheats and admin commands — change the world, manage players, and grant op to others. Exact powers depend on the op-permission-level server setting.

Permission level

/op requires Server admin (op level 3). In single-player you need the world's "Allow Cheats" toggle on. On a multiplayer server you need to be opped — see /op.
