How to Make Torch in Minecraft

Craft Torches from 1 Coal (or Charcoal) on top of 1 Stick. One craft makes 4 Torches.

You'll need

  • 1× Coal or Charcoal
  • 1× Stick

Station / tools

  • Crafting Table or inventory grid

Yields: 4 Torches per craft

Step by step

  1. 1

    Get Coal and a Stick

    Mine Coal Ore, or smelt logs into Charcoal. Sticks come from 2 Planks.

    Stack them

    Place Coal directly above a Stick in the crafting grid. You get 4 Torches — no crafting table needed.

Tips

  • Charcoal works exactly like Coal here and is fully renewable from a tree farm.
  • Torches placed at light level 14 stop most hostile mobs from spawning nearby.
