How to Make Smooth Stone in Minecraft
Smelt a regular Stone block in a furnace to get Smooth Stone. Cobblestone smelts into Stone first, so it takes two passes through the furnace from raw cobblestone.
You'll need
- 1× Stone
- Fuel (coal, charcoal, etc.)
Station / tools
- Furnace
Yields: 1 Smooth Stone per Stone smelted
Step by step
- 1
Get Stone, not Cobblestone
Mine stone with a Silk Touch pickaxe, or smelt Cobblestone in a furnace once to turn it into Stone. Smooth Stone is made from the smooth grey Stone block, not from Cobblestone directly.
- 2
Smelt the Stone
Put the Stone block in the top slot of a furnace and fuel in the bottom. Each piece of Stone becomes one Smooth Stone.
- 3
Collect Smooth Stone
Drag the finished Smooth Stone out of the furnace. It has a lighter, cleaner texture and is used to craft a Blast Furnace.
Tips
- Raw Cobblestone → Stone → Smooth Stone means two smelting passes. Cook a stack of Cobblestone into Stone first, then run it through again.
- Smooth Stone Slabs are the block used for item-frame display walls and the Blast Furnace recipe.
FAQ
What is Smooth Stone used for?
Smooth Stone crafts a Blast Furnace (the faster ore-smelting station) and Smooth Stone Slabs. It's also a popular clean building block.
Why is my Cobblestone not turning into Smooth Stone?
Smelting Cobblestone only produces Stone. You have to smelt that Stone a second time to get Smooth Stone.
