Craft a Shield from 6 Wooden Planks and 1 Iron Ingot. Hold it in your off-hand and use it to block incoming attacks.

    Arrange the recipe

    Top row: Plank, Iron Ingot, Plank. Middle row: 3 Planks. Bottom: a single Plank in the center.

    Use it

    Put the Shield in your off-hand slot and hold use (right-click) to raise it and block melee, arrows, and explosions from the front.

Tips

  • Apply a Banner to a Shield in the crafting grid to add a custom design.
  • An axe hit can disable your shield for a few seconds, so watch for axe-wielding mobs and players.
