How to Make Saddle in Minecraft
Saddles can't be crafted. Get one from chest loot in dungeons, temples, and Nether fortresses, by fishing, or by trading Emeralds with a master-level Leatherworker villager.
You'll need
- Emeralds (for trading)
Station / tools
- Fishing Rod (optional)
Yields: 1 Saddle (no crafting recipe exists)
Step by step
- 1
Search generated chests
Saddles appear in dungeon, desert/jungle temple, Nether fortress, stronghold, and village chests. Explore and loot containers.
- 2
Trade with a Leatherworker
A master-level Leatherworker villager sells a Saddle for Emeralds in Java Edition. Level up the villager by trading with it.
- 3
Go fishing
Saddles are a 'treasure' catch when fishing. A Luck of the Sea rod improves your odds.
Tips
- You can also get a Saddle from a ridden Strider in the Nether, or rarely from other mobs.
- Use a Saddle on a tamed Horse, Donkey, Mule, Pig (with a Carrot on a Stick), or Strider (with a Warped Fungus on a Stick) to ride it.
FAQ
Can you craft a Saddle in Minecraft?
No. There is no crafting recipe for a Saddle in any edition — you can only find, fish, or trade for one.
Where are Saddles most common?
Nether fortress and dungeon chests are reliable sources, and a master-level Leatherworker villager always sells one.
