How to Make Netherite Armor in Minecraft
Upgrade Diamond armor to Netherite at a Smithing Table using a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template and one Netherite Ingot per piece.
You'll need
- 1× Diamond armor piece
- 1× Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
- 1× Netherite Ingot
Station / tools
- Smithing Table
Yields: 1 Netherite armor piece per upgrade
Step by step
- 1
Get the Smithing Template
Find a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template in a Bastion Remnant chest in the Nether. You can duplicate it with 7 Netherite Ingots + 1 Diamond.
- 2
Make a Netherite Ingot
Smelt Ancient Debris into Netherite Scrap, then craft 4 Scrap + 4 Gold Ingots into 1 Netherite Ingot.
- 3
Upgrade at the Smithing Table
Place the template, the diamond armor piece, and the Netherite Ingot in the Smithing Table. The result keeps all enchantments.
Tips
- Netherite gear is upgraded from Diamond — you can't craft it from scratch, so enchant your Diamond set first.
- Netherite floats on lava and survives burning, and gives more armor toughness and knockback resistance than Diamond.
FAQ
Do I need a Smithing Template for Netherite armor?
Yes. Since the 1.20 update every Netherite upgrade requires a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, found in Bastion Remnants.
Does upgrading to Netherite keep enchantments?
Yes — the upgraded piece keeps every enchantment and its durability, so always enchant before upgrading.
