Smelting
How to Make Glass in Minecraft
Smelt Sand (or Red Sand) in a furnace to make Glass. Each block of sand becomes one Glass block.
You'll need
- 1× Sand or Red Sand
- Fuel
Station / tools
- Furnace
Yields: 1 Glass per Sand smelted
Step by step
- 1
Collect Sand
Dig up Sand or Red Sand from beaches, deserts, and riverbeds. A shovel is fastest.
- 2
Smelt it
Put the Sand in a furnace with fuel. Each piece smelts into one Glass block.
Tips
- Both Sand and Red Sand smelt into the same clear Glass.
- Craft Glass Panes (6 Glass → 16 panes) for thinner windows, or dye Glass into 16 stained colors.
- Mining placed Glass without Silk Touch destroys it — use a Silk Touch tool to keep the block.
FAQ
How do I get my Glass block back after placing it?
Mine it with a Silk Touch tool. Without Silk Touch, broken Glass drops nothing.
