How to Make Bed in Minecraft

Craft a Bed from 3 Wool and 3 Planks. Place 3 matching-color Wool in the top row and 3 wooden Planks below them in a crafting table.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Get 3 Wool

    Shear sheep for Wool (shearing keeps the sheep alive), or craft Wool from 4 String. All 3 must be the same color.

    Get 3 Planks

    Turn any logs into Planks — 1 log makes 4 Planks. The plank type doesn't have to match.

  3. 3

    Craft the Bed

    In a crafting table, place the 3 Wool across the top row and the 3 Planks across the middle row. The bed color matches the wool.

Tips

  • Sleeping in a Bed sets your spawn point and skips the night (and thunderstorms).
  • In the Nether and the End, Beds explode when used — they're useful as a controlled explosive there.
  • Dye the Wool first to make any of the 16 bed colors.

FAQ

Why can't I sleep in my Bed?

You can only sleep at night or during a thunderstorm, and you must be near the bed with no nearby monsters.

Does the Wool color matter?

Only for the bed's appearance. All three Wool blocks must share the same color or the recipe won't work.
